enviromental ethos

Let's face it, the software development industry doesn't exactly evoke images of lush forests and clear skies (like our website), but that's exactly why Drive Current is a different kind of company.  We are extremely committed to having a positive impact on the environment and truly doing everything in our power to make a difference. Our environmental aspirations extend far beyond the commitments we've made below.

1% For The Planet
1% For The Planet is an alliance of businesses committed to leveraging their resources to create a healthier planet. Members recognize their responsibility to and dependence on a healthy environment and donate at least 1% of their annual revenues to environmental organizations worldwide. The alliance aims to prove that taking environmental responsibility is good for business.

Organizations we support:
American Forests
Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Chapter
Union of Concerned Scientists
West Virginia Rivers Coalition
World Resources Institute

San Diego Renewable Energy Society
Our CEO, Joe Steinberger, is a founding board member of the San Diego Renewable Energy Society, a local chapter of the American Solar Energy Society.  You can view his blog at www.drivingtozero.com.

AISO.net
We are proud to be hosted by AISO.net, a trusted name in environmentally friendly web hosting since 1997. AISO owns and operates its own data center and network that is 100% solar powered, not just energy credits like many hosting companies.

Actions we have taken to directly contribute to the sustainability of our business include:

  • Conducting an audit of the energy use of our offices (including office equipment, building insulation, and lighting) and making appropriate upgrades
  • Minimizing our paper transactions and recycling plastic, aluminum, and paper
  • We are in the process of migrating to servers that use significantly less energy.  In addition to this, we are taking advantage of new server virtualization tools to enable us to do more with fewer servers (which by definition must run 24/7).
